What Makes It Stand Out

12K Resolution — Microscopic Detail

19x24µm pixel size means individual pixels are invisible to the naked eye. For context, a human hair is ~70µm. Each pixel is smaller than a third of a hair.

What this means in practice:

  • Tabletop miniatures with individual chain mail links, facial expressions, and fabric texture

  • Ventilation needed — Print in a garage, workshop, or room with good airflow. Not a bedroom.
  • Post-processing required — Every print needs washing (IPA or water-washable resin) and UV curing
  • Consumable costs — Resin, IPA, FEP films add ongoing expense
  • Mess potential — Spilled resin is a nightmare to clean. Contain everything in trays.

No Wash & Cure Included

You’ll want the Elegoo Mercury Plus 2.0 or equivalent wash and cure station (~$60-80). Budget for it alongside the printer.

FEP Film Replacement

The FEP film at the bottom of the resin vat is a consumable. It clouds and eventually tears after 20-50+ prints (varies by usage). Replacement films are $5-10 each. Not expensive, but it’s maintenance that FDM printers don’t have.

Limited Material Range

Resin is resin. You get standard, ABS-like, water-washable, tough, flexible, and castable options. But you can’t print with the range of engineering materials that FDM offers (nylon, PETG, polycarbonate, etc.). Resin is primarily for visual quality, not mechanical performance.
